Paul Stibbles

Hello my name is Paul. I’m a professional photographer living in the Glasgow area of Bonny Scotland. Originally from Perth, I became interested in photography having regularly chatted to, and selected wines for, one or two well known famous photographers who frequently stayed at the hotel where I was Head Sommelier. After a long period of thought I decided to attend college in Glasgow to study photography, develop my interest and apply what I learned into a career in professional photography. While at college I gained a great understanding in film development and darkroom black and white printing, as well as skills in studio lighting. Most importantly, I learned that I had a good eye for taking professional photographs through my understanding of composition, light, quality of light, technical skill and above all else communication skills. My previous background in hotels taught me to listen to clients' needs and explain my concept with regards to taking their ideas and transforming them into still images. I have been a freelance photographer with one of the leading portrait companies in the UK for the past five years, I have had the pleasure of photographing many weddings and have undertaken several photographic commissions for hotel chains throughout Scotland - giving me the opportunity to photograph a variety of personalities, including former President Bill Clinton.

Wedding photography is so unique to each bride and groom, it is one of the most demanding photographic challanges you can have. There are no second chances, the events have to be captured as they happen as you can't just go back and do it again next week. This is where my enthusiasm and passion, coupled with my attention to detail, is critical. Just as in hotels when the doors to the restaurant open the performance begins. While photographing a wedding you must perform. I am a good listener, a good organiser and direct people gently and effectively when needed to get the shots that couples require with no fuss, definitely no shouting, and most of all, respecting that the day belongs to the bride and groom and their chosen guests - not me!!!!

Through personal photographic projects I explore my interests in capturing nature and the built environment in unusual ways; playing with exposure and the cast of light on objects to create a unique view of the world. I love the challange of photography - how to best interpret a scene and capture it in my own style.
